Q: How are these illustrations made?

A: Elfen magic. Well, that and computer graphics. I sketch out ideas in pencil on paper then scan and email them to the client for feedback. Once we've agreed on the direction to pursue, I flesh out the sketch using graphics software called Painter. Painter's strength is its so-called natural media emulation tools; meaning that it mimics the look of paints, pencils, etc. So, yes, even the sketchy, watercolor-looking stuff in my "Look 2" portfolio is created digitally. I used to work with real watercolors, but I like the freedom to experiment one gets with a digital image. If only everything in life came with an "undo" button...

Some options for the client to consider.
